Working in one of the world’s most remote locales, Peno Kavori has become the unofficial ambassador of Papua New Guinea’s coffee trade.
When he began this mission 30 years ago, he collected coffee from his neighbours and transported it to the provincial capital. He now buys coffee from all over the region and handles processing at his own mill.
And in Papua New Guinea, where many municipalities aren’t reachable by the rutted, impassable roads and most farmers don’t own automobiles, transporting crops is no small feat. Yet Peno, now at the head of his own coffee operation, perseveres in his quest—going almost literally to the end of the earth to support his community and share with us for a second year the flavours of this exotic, remote origin.
About Starbucks Reserve™ coffee
Our constant travels around the world take us in search of small-lot coffees that are distinctive enough to earn our Starbucks Reserve™ label. Each coffee is one-of-a-kind—sourced from small coffee-growing regions in Latin America, Africa and Asia / Pacific Islands.
All Starbucks Reserve™ coffees are roasted with care, at our Starbucks Reserve™ Roastery and Tasting Room in Seattle, to bring out their peak flavour expression. They are available in limited supply in select Starbucks® stores or delivered to you.
